    This position is responsible for administering and communicating the company’s benefits programs including plan options, policy features, enrollment and other requirements by partnering with others in the HR benefits team.  This position will assist with investigating new benefit programs or recommending enhancements to current programs along with analyzing benefit costs.  The incumbent will also be accountable for providing excellent customer service to employees internal and external to the HR department; and, to be a positive representative for Cree to external constituents.

    What can you do for Cree? 

    • Assist in the administration of all components of the following benefits plans and programs including:  Medical, Dental, Vision, Prescription drug, STD and LTD, FMLA, Life insurance, AD&D insurance, EAP, educational assistance, Spending accounts and 401(k).  Document and maintain administrative procedures for benefit processes.
    • Supports the operation of the Wellness program – driving engagement through program activities, developing communications, etc.   Assists with the annual biometrics process – communication, vendor interface and scheduling.  
    • Interact positively with employees by delivering superb customer service, advising them on benefits programs, and providing timely resolution to issues/concerns.   
    • Complete external surveys/audits to ensure Cree’s competitiveness including:  Radford Benefits Survey, Wellness Benefit Audit, Medical Audits – BCBS & Oracle, H.S.A. employer contributions audit.
    • Assist with on-going annual benefits projects such as:  Open Enrollment, Wellness initiatives, Reporting (5500s) and discrimination testing
    • Assist in providing internal benefits communication and training to employees and supervisors. 
    • Interact with plan vendors and third-party administrators. 
    • Analyze and assist in developing policies and benefits plans. 
    • Recommend and advise on benefits enhancements and changes. 
    • Coordinate transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums and plan administration.
    • Investigate discrepancies and provide information on non-routine issues.
    • Review and process benefits invoices.
    • Evaluate and revise internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency. 
    • Work with HRIS and Payroll to create, manage and audit efficient electronic file feeds between external systems/vendors.
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and company policies by maintaining benefit records, preparing documents necessary for implementing benefit coverage and working with inside and outside counsel. 
    • Provide reporting as required.
    • Review and approve tuition submissions in Oracle and process other Oracle transactions as needed. 
    • Provides necessary supporting documentation and analyses for the Employee Benefits Committee (EBC)


    What you need for success:

    • 5+ years’ experience in a benefits role
    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Demonstrated ability to quickly and accurately learn processes and systems.
    • Self directed, but able to successfully work in a team environment
    • Ability to deal with changing priorities
    • Able to effectively handle sensitive information & correspondence and maintain absolute confidentiality
    • Superb customer service skills
    • Organized and resourceful
    • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines with quality work products
    • Multi-tasks effectively, strong work ethic
    • Advanced skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint (Microsoft office suite)
    • Will question current assumptions around processes and business assumptions and offer creative solutions


    Highly preferred skills and certifications: 

    • Experience with Oracle preferred, Oracle Advanced Benefits experience a plus
