Position: Facilities Technician
Summary: Installs, maintains, and repairs all Building operating systems, machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems in industrial and office environments by performing the following duties. Receives job assignments from Facility Manager, Supervisor, Senior Maintenance Mechanic, or designated management, to provide support to Manufacturing Facility to ensure that all equipment is working efficiently and kept in good working order.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
-Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
-Able to develop and perform Preventive Maintenance Tasks.
-Listens for or detects unusual sounds, from machines to identify malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with operators, supervisors, outside services, and/or maintenance workers to diagnose problem(s) and/or repair machine.
-Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
-Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical components of machinery and equipment.
-Troubleshoots Electrical Control Systems, Electric Motors, Gas Burners and related equipment.
-Troubleshoots and repairs Building and Paint system pumps, Waste treatment Equipment.
-Layout, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repair gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
-Repair and maintain physical structure of the Plant.
-Install, program, and/or repair automated machinery and equipment such as robots or programmable controllers.
-Set-up and operate machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools. Operates hand and power tools.
-Operate cutting torch and/or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
-Fabricate repair parts and structures, and repair counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures.
-Completes necessary paperwork and documentation to support the CMMS.
-Performs work in a safe manner, including using the Lockout-Tagout procedures.
-Works with and supports Outside Services to assist in the repair and/or maintenance of machines, equipment, or parts of the physical plant.
-Responsible for the security of the Plant and the fire protection system. This includes key access and response to Plant emergencies. Special responsibilities for extreme emergencies, i.e. hazardous materials spillage, power outages, fires, etc.
- Performs duties as assign by Hazmat Emergency Coordinator in the event there is an explosion, fire, or release of hazardous waste to the air, soil, groundwater or surface water, as applicable.
-Promotes and supports the maintenance of a safe, accident-free, and healthy work environment.
-Supports and maintains TPM initiatives.
-Performs, supports, and sustains 5S initiatives within the department and throughout the facility.
-Performs and maintains inventory of replacement parts, dealing with vendors to locate and order parts to keep equipment running and to maintain production schedules.
-Performs snow removal and salting as directed by management.
Education and/or Experience:
Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or One to three years’ experience for Tech 1, Three to Five for Tech 2 and five to eight years related experience Tech 3 and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience, as determined by the Director of Human Resources, and Facilities Manager.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals and drawings. Ability to complete required documentation and write routine reports and correspondence, both hand written and by computer. Ability to verbally communicate with operators, supervisors, and management regarding status of work.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using decimals. Ability to compute ratio, percent and to calculate common mathematical problems.
Ability to follow written or oral instructions and to quickly understand and execute tasks. Ability to deal with several different problems involving many different variables and find the optimal solution.
Other Skills & Abilities:
Ability to read blue prints, layout drawings, electrical schematics, sketches, and ladder diagrams. Ability to operate plant vehicles for the performance of job duties. Ability to operate the CMMS and run reports to monitor schedule compliance, backlog, and efficiencies. Ability to successfully complete Hazardous Materials Emergency Response training. Annual Hazardous Materials Emergency Response certification training is required if appointed to the Hazardous Materials Emergency Response team.
