    Software Engineer Intern - Data & Algorithms

     

    Project Description

     

    Characterize occupancy of an indoor space using one or more sensors for different operating environments. Combine data from multiple sources to increase accuracy of solution and design margins.  Build a data gathering platform leveraging off the shelf sensors and acquisition hardware and interface to a PC or embedded target.  Create and demonstrate algorithms using Matlab or Python to generate actionable insights from raw sensor data.  As time permits, perfect the algorithm and adapt it to constrained embedded processor. 

     

    Department Description

     

    The Advanced Technology team is led by the Chief Technology Officer and is chartered with surveying, identifying and proving new technologies to be used in future generations of Cree products. The team is responsible for looking ahead of the product development teams within each business unit to find new technology opportunities for new and existing products.  The team applies a scientific methodology to identify, analyze, experiment and develop innovative products and features that derive indisputable business value for Cree. 

     Project Requirements

    • Python, Matlab, Java or C programming
    • Experiment Data capture
    • Data visualization
    • Strong written and verbal communications

     

    Project Preferred Requirements

    • Passive Infrared Sensor
    • Arduino, Raspberry Pi
    • Sensor fusion
    • Digital signal processing including digital filters in software
    • Detection, thresholding and classification algorithms
    • Algorithm optimization for execution speed and memory footprint
    • Jupyter Python Notebook
    • Design of Experiments
