Job Description

Cree currently has an opening for an Equipment Technician within our Reliability and Characterization lab at our Raleigh/Durham, NC headquarters facility and is looking for enthusiastic, hands-on candidates to join our exciting fast-paced company. In this position, you will be working in our ISO:17025 LED Components Reliability and Characterization lab and be responsible for the complex equipment and measurement systems that help enable our success.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform equipment start-up, upgrades/modifications, maintenance, and troubleshooting on HVAC chambers, power driver systems, and optical measurement tools.
  • Work with vendors, design/implement systems, and work on the installation of new equipment
  • Perform maintenance to minimize equipment failure and down time.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, determine corrective actions, and implement these actions.
  • Ensure product is protected from equipment failures with appropriate reliable interlocks to ensure preservation of long term reliability tests (> 15 khrs).
  • Maintain our ISO:17025 Lab accreditation by ensuring quality and calibration compliance.
  • Purchase the parts and equipment necessary to keep the lab running
  • Interface with and coordinate activities among a wide range of functional departments including: R&D, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in an engineering or technical field or equivalent experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, schematics, and maintenance manuals.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
  • Must be able to work in a clean room environment
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude/troubleshooting ability.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance tasks designed to improve/sustain equipment availability, reliability and maintainability.
  • Demonstrate strong troubleshooting capability and exemplary “root cause” corrective skills and techniques.
  • Schedule:1st Shift, 1 Weekend Day


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience troubleshooting and working on manufacturing and test equipment, preferably semiconductor.
  • Experience using CAD software for generating electrical and/or mechanical schematics.
  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining HVAC systems.
