Are you a revolutionary? We currently have an opening for a Process Development and Sustaining Engineer within our Lighting R&D group in Santa Barbara, CA. We hope you’ll read on to see if you have what it takes to join the revolution.

The engineer chosen for this position will be a key member of Cree's process development team focusing on sustaining engineering. This team is responsible for the process engineering functions within our cross-functional R&D labs including new materials integration, component build, and test with an emphasis on data based process validation and validation through reliability testing.

What can you do for Cree?

  • Sustain, improve and develop processes for LED component fabrication.
  • Assume ownership of and manage prototype fabrication processes.
  • Create, document, and maintain operating specifications for processes and equipment which includes the ability to understand the tool, run it efficiently, and train others on it.
  • Respond to R&D team requests and ensure effective new process introductions meet expectations regarding performance and sustainability.
  • Be the first point of contact technical resource for the technician pool including tasking and prioritizing, and trouble shooting.
  • Work towards assuming supervisory role for process development team.
  • Interface with equipment engineering, technicians, R&D engineers and management to meet aggressive timelines and goals.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

 What you need for success:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor packaging from die attach to singulation and test.
  • Working knowledge of applied statistics and data analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, formally and informally.
  • Motivation to learn and adapt to new processing challenges through tools or software including mechanical design, thermal simulations and test planning.

 Highly preferred skills and certifications:

  • 2-3 years semiconductor processing experience including die attach, encapsulation, dicing, thin films, characterization, and failure analysis.
  • Technical understanding of semiconductor processes and equipment.
  • Excellent project management skills with demonstrated ability to identify manufacturing improvements, manage change, and implement solutions.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability and desire to assume a technical leadership role within the organization.
  • Proven experiences with applied statistics and data analysis through a platform like JMP.
