Environmental Engineer

 

Cree is seeking an Environmental Engineer to develop and implement environmental programs in a semiconductor and LED lighting component manufacturing environment. Primary responsibilities include working with our sustainability program to implement a plant-wide recycling program, managing wastewater compliance, and preparing Cree’s global environmental metrics

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the recycling program for two facilities in Durham
  • Implement environmental regulatory compliance programs for wastewater and serve as environmental interface with business units. Prepare wastewater permit applications for changes required by production
  • Perform calculations for the greenhouse gas inventory, and maintain the GHG monitoring plan
  • Develop audit protocols and conduct environmental audits
  • Support incident investigations with business units, determine root causes and drive corrective actions
  • Build effective relationships with internal teams focusing on customer service based solutions
  • Develop and implement environmental procedures, associated training, guidance documents, and job aids
  • Manage the recordkeeping system for global environmental metrics and prepare presentations of the information for the management and the Cree website
  • Maintain the ISO 14001 environmental certification process

What you need for success:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Management, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering or related degree
  • 2 – 10 years’ experience in a relevant field
  • Excellent computer skills, proficiency with Excel and ability to learn other complex databases.
  • Understanding of chemistry and chemical processes

Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, or Master’s in Environmental Management.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • 5 years’ experience in the environmental regulatory compliance arena.
  • Experience in the semiconductor or chemical industry and experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent data management skills.
  • Communication, organizational, time-management and multitasking skills. Ability to develop relationships with the manufacturing and facilities engineering organizations.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to partner effectively with various business units
  • Ability to manage multiple programs/projects simultaneously and ability to effectively implement the programs/projects in a complex environment.
