Job Description

The Power Module Product Engineer will play a key role in the design, development, characterization, and qualification of Wolfspeed’s next generation of silicon carbide (SiC) based multi-chip power modules. After successful transition to volume production and commercial release, the product engineer will continue to support these module products over their complete life cycle.

What can you do for Wolfspeed? (Job Responsibilities, Day to Day responsibilities)

  • Support the electrical, thermal, and mechanical design and validation activities using DFMEA, DVP&R, and worst case analysis tools
  • Support module process design activities using PFMEA, PVP&R, DOEs and other statistical tools
  • Own concept, preliminary, and active datasheet generation activities. Guide the testing team to perform static and dynamic characterization, short-circuit and avalanche ruggedness testing, etc.
  • Own qualification and lifetime testing activities. Interface with the reliability team to develop and maintain module-level JEDEC / AECQ compliant test systems. Schedule and track module testing to meet new product introduction timelines. Work with the reliability team to produce reliability reports.
  • Overcome development challenges using 8D and 5-Why problem solving techniques. Work with the physical analysis team to determine root cause and recommend paths forward.
  • Own product engineering activities including SPC tracking, continuous improvement projects, customer RMAs, product change notifications (PCN), product obsolescence, etc.

What you need for success:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering plus 5 years of experience in one or more of the following fields: multi-chip power module package design, power module process design, or power module product development targeting industrial and/or automotive applications
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical, thermal, and mechanical physics domains, interaction modes, failure modes, and design principles
  • Experience creating and maintaining FMEAs and DVP&Rs to understand and retire product risk
  • Experience with JEDEC and/or AECQ power semiconductor qualification standards and methods
  • Experience with 8D problem solving methodology and root cause analysis techniques.
  • May be required to travel (up to 20%) domestically or internationally

Highly preferred skills and certifications:

  • Demonstrated commercial success in bringing a multi-chip power module product from design, through the qualification process, and supporting production ramp into industrial or automotive markets
  • Experience performing multi-domain Finite Element Analysis studies using tools such as COMSOL Multiphysics
  • Strong working knowledge of statistical data analysis tools such as SAS JMP, Minitab, or similar
  • Experience working with large datasets using scripting tools such as MATLAB, Octave, JMP/JSL, Python, or similar
