Job Description

We currently have an opening for an entry level Linux Software Engineer within our IoT Engineering group located at the Cree corporate headquarters in Durham, NC. If you’re a qualified Linux software developer, especially with product development experience, we want to hear from you.

 

This role is for an entry level software engineer with prior experience writing software in a Linux environment. The ideal candidate will have previously maintained a Linux distribution for an embedded project including kernel compilation, hotfixes, patches and BSP maintenance tasks.

What can you do for Cree?

  • Design, develop, implement and maintain world-class software applications
  • Participate as an active member of our Agile/Scrum engineering organization
  • Linux operating environment configuration and compilation, including Board Support Package/BSP maintenance
  • Application development utilizing GoLang, C, Python, Bash and other common Linux tools/languages
  • Support and work with other developers to integrate software development tasks and duties within a larger project deliverable
  • Apply test driven development practices in an Agile setting including writing, deploying and maintaining unit tests and continuous code integration/deployment

What you need for success:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field
  • Strong desire to work on technical challenges coupled with close peer interaction
  • 3+ years’ experience in a software development role
  • Solid understanding of HW architectures, especially related to Linux kernel drivers and operating environments
  • Understanding Linux pre-emptive scheduling in an application development context
  • Ability to perform board bring-up including BSP modifications
  • Experience with ARM based Uboot development
  • Source level Development experience working with Linux SPI, i2c, GPIO, and i2s
  • Ability to develop embedded applications in C and Golang
  • Ability to work in parallel with hardware design engineers and communicate efficiently
  • Experience with git and JIRA preferred
  • Configure, design and maintain existing applications including bug fixes and feature enhancements
  • Solid understanding of embedded systems and integrated network programming (sockets)
  • Systems software expertise in developing modular software for embedded software applications
