Buyer - Lighting group

Secure the right components, the right quantity, at right time for the right price to support Cree’s manufacturing.


Job Summary

  • The primary focus of this position is to manage the sustaining procurement for negotiated materials from suppliers based on pre-established processes and guidelines utilizing the Oracle MRP system.
  • In this role you will also support a highly dynamic production process and help manage the commercial relationship with suppliers
  • The incumbent must maintain adequate inventory to meet customer service levels and established inventory goals
  • This position will work closely with Operations, Engineering, R&D, Finance, Legal, and other Supply Chain professionals to achieve business objectives.

What can Cree do for you?

Review and execute action items from MRP or system driven messages

Place purchase orders for materials and services to support company's production plan as necessary

Expedite part shortages to support production and complete FEAR form as necessary

Review, approve the component forecast on a monthly basis

Reconcile invoice discrepancies

Execute inventory strategies to minimize inventory investment; i.e., Kanban, VMI, Consignment, Blanket PO's

Monitor inventory levels

Update supplier lead-times

Monitor and execute component part transition per DCR's/ECO's

Point of contact for solution on receiving discrepancies

Update PO due dates per supplier/review past due PO's

PO price accuracy

Maintain supplier relationships to support day to day activity

Purchase price variance explanation at the PO level

What you need for success:

  • B.S. Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering or related fields from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in sourcing and supply chain or less experience if B.S. Degree is in Supply Chain Management.
  • In-depth understanding of ERP systems with emphasis on procurement, MRP, payables, receiving and inventory modules.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of procurement processes and contract management.
  • Experienced in the art of problem solving, issue resolution and change management in dealing with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Self-directed, self-motivated, works successfully in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel as required. 


Highly preferred skills and certifications:

  • Certification as a supply chain professional and/or desire to further education.
  • Experience working in a high volume and high technology industry.
  • Experience in purchasing electronic components.
  • Familiarity with electronic component suppliers and distributors.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Oracle.
