Job Description

This is a Silicon Carbide (SiC) Power Device Product Engineer position at the RTP facility.  In this role you will be responsible for overseeing the fabrication of next generation SiC Power Semiconductor Devices.  Duties include planning lot starts, specifying epitaxy, ensuring successful device processing and ensuring final parametric performance meets product specifications.  Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to work closely with a team of Device Designers, Process Development Engineers, Product Technicians, Test Engineers, and Failure Analysist Specialists to drive yield and performance improvements and to bring new device designs and processes to market.

What can you do for Wolfspeed?


  • Interface with the New Product Introduction, Business Development and R&D Teams to specify, plan and execute the wafer fabrication of SiC Power Device Production, Pre-Production and R&D Lots. Track progress to deliverables and communicate status to internal customers.
  • Oversee and specify SiC Power Device fabrication lots in the wafer fabrication facility, ensuring control of processes and overall quality of the process from start to completion.
  • Develop and specify appropriate final parametric tests and interface with the R&D and Production Wafer Test Teams plan and execute wafer-level parametric testing and yield analysis. Identify and drive yield improvements to ensure product achieves performance metrics.
  • Correlate wafer-level parametric testing back to process module variables and process quality.
  • Work with R&D and Production Teams to troubleshoot wafer fabrication lots that are out of statistical control or out of specification.
  • Specify wafer and epitaxial requirements needed to deliver product.
  • Lead and coordinate key New Product Deliverables for Concept and Development including Preliminary Datasheet, Initial Design FMEA, Test Plan and Initial Rel Plan to ensure product meets customer needs.


What you need for success:

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or related discipline
  • 4+ years of experience in Semiconductor Device Processing
  • Basic understanding of the operation of Semiconductor Devices, including diodes and MOS-controlled switches (MOSFETs and/or IGBTs)
  • Basic understanding of device performance metrics and electrical test equipment for device characterization
  • Must have a “whatever it takes” mentality, possibly working outside of normal hours to ensure project execution
  • Knowledge of Statistical-based data analysis
  • US citizenship or permanent residency


Highly preferred skills and certifications:

  • M.S. or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or related discipline, or 6+ years of experience in Semiconductor Manufacturing
  • Fundamental understanding of Power Semiconductor Device design, including MOSFETs and Diodes
  • Experience in SiC or Si Power Device Processing and Characterization, including photolithography, dry and wet etch processes, physical and chemical vapor deposition, thermal processing, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of Semiconductor Analytical Techniques such as SEM, FIB, SIMS or other similar techniques
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
